Toyota Highlander Stop & Start Engine Technology

January 6th, 2017 by

Toyota Santa MonicaWe’re excited to share Toyota’s newest offering in terms of technology on certain models of the Toyota Highlander in the United States. Toyota has introduced a Stop & Start Engine System to trims of this long favorite SUV for better fuel efficiency, smoother functionality, and more. Learn all about this addition below, and see how it will change drives around Santa Monica before you meet us for a test drive of a new Toyota vehicle at Toyota Santa Monica!

Stop & Start Engine System

While it’s been available overseas, this technology  has not been added to U.S. models of the Toyota Highlander in order to develop the best quality system to outperform similar systems. While other vehicles may not start immediately when their engines tops — giving pause to drivers — the new Toyota Highlander does away with that thanks to this advanced technology.

How Does This Change the Toyota Highlander?

When you come up on a red light or are stuck in stand-still traffic, the engine will stop to prevent using unnecessary fuel or producing emissions that can be harmful to the environment. The engine will shut off automatically, and when you lift your foot from the brake pedal, it will seamlessly start again. You also won’t have to listen to unnecessary engine noise when the vehicle is stopped.

How Does It Work?

You can choose to turn this feature on or off with a button left of the steering wheel. In the event that MAX A/C is in use or you’re stopped at a steep incline, the feature automatically will not kick in as the engine needs to run to keep these features and others working properly.
