Compact SUVs are increasingly popular, and it’s not hard to see why! Models like the 2019 Toyota RAV4 and the 2019 Honda CR-V are practical, affordable, and great for families. You may already know that these two popular options are at the top of their segment, but which one actually offers more for your daily drives around Palms and Playa Vista? Make the right choice by comparing the Toyota RAV4 vs. Honda CR-V with Toyota Santa Monica, today.

RAV4 vs. CR-V: Performance Specs

Even if your primary concern is practicality, there’s no reason to settle for a vehicle that isn’t fun to drive! The Honda CR-V is no slouch, but the RAV4 wins out in nearly all of the areas that matter most to our friends and neighbors:

  • Horsepower: Drivers who choose the RAV4 will enjoy up to 203 hp without upgrades. The CR-V only offers 184 hp with its baseline engine.
  • Fuel Economy: If you spend much time cruising the highway, you can save big by choosing the RAV4. The latter gets up to 35 mpg on the highway*, while the CR-V only gets up to 32 mpg on the open road.
  • All-Wheel Drive: More and more families are recognizing the importance of all-wheel drive. Both models offer an AWD upgrade, but only the RAV4 offers Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD for superior on- and off-road performance.
  • Towing: In their baseline configurations, both the RAV4 and the CR-V can tow up to 1,500 pounds. However, drivers who upgrade to the RAV4 Adventure configuration will be able to pull up to 3,500 pounds! There’s no CR-V trim that can come close.
  • Hybrid Trims: There is no hybrid version of the CR-V available in the United States today. The same cannot be said for the RAV4! We offer numerous Toyota RAV4 Hybrid models for sale in Santa Monica.

RAV4 vs. CR-V: Safety Features and Driver-Assistance Tech

Both the CR-V and the RAV4 are available with their own suites of driver assistance safety tech: Honda Sensing and Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0), respectively. Toyota makes the Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 package a standard feature in every RAV4 trim, but you’ll need to upgrade to access similar tech in the Honda.

Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 also offers a number of features that simply aren’t available in the CR-V. The latest updates include Lane Tracing Assist and Road Sign Assist.

On top of all this, a Blind Spot Monitor and a Rear Cross Traffic Monitor are optional in the base RAV4 trim level. Once more, you’ll need to upgrade to a more expensive trim if you want to access similar features in the CR-V.
