- Toyota Prius v Sales After Just 10 Weeks Top GM Volt Sales Total for All of 2011
Toyota Prius v sales left GM's Volt plug-in hybrid in the dust in 2011. The Prius v, which didn't even go on sale in the United States until the last week of October, sold 8,399 units while GM delivered 7,671 Volts to U.S. dealers in 2011 and 7,997 in its first 13 months on the market, reports Bloomberg News.

- Toyota Tacoma Wins PickupTrucks.com's 2012 Midsize Shootout
Toyota's Tacoma won PickupTruck.com's 2012 Midsize Shoot. Experts from PickupTruck.com and USA Today put seven midsize models through 10 tests. "Of all the small trucks we tested, the Tacoma was the clear winner in this Shootout," said Mark Williams, PickupTruck.com editor. "A strong bang-for-your-buck value, combined with refinements to the ride quality and interior cabin helped the Tacoma trump the other competitors by a pretty good margin. The Toyota Tacoma just continues to get better and better."
- Toyota Assembled 1.25 Million Vehicles in North America in 2011 and 1.14 Million Engines
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (TEMA) plants assembled 1,255,635 vehicles last year and 1,141,466 engines. TEMA produces 12 models in North America: Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza and Lexus RX350.
"Despite a challenging year due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan that caused limited parts availability, Toyota team members and supplying partners were able to ramp up production ahead of schedule," said Shigeki Terashi, president and COO of TEMA. "This kind of commitment and customer-first spirit will set the stage for growth over the course of the year."

- Toyota's Indiana Assembly Plant Marks Production of 3 Millionth Vehicle
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI) marked production of its 3 millionth vehicle this week when a silver Sienna rolled off the assembly line. The plant began production in 1998 with the Tundra pickup until 2008. The Sequoia sport utility vehicle was added in 2000, the Sienna joined the lineup in 2003 and the Highlander mid-size SUV in 2009. The plant exports Siennas to South Korea Sequoias to the Middle East. "We are extremely proud of our team members' continued, dedication to quality that has allowed us to reach this milestone, said Norm Bafunno, president of TMMI.
